One of our Council’s objectives this year is to enhance the integration of new members into the Council. This includes all members joining or transferring to our parish council. The sponsor/mentor role will serve as a guide to welcome, communicate, and instruct the new member about our council, the KOC
organization, and the parish & community we serve. It is not a formal program but one that gets the member to quickly feel a part of the council and understand who we are as Knights. The qualifications for a sponsor/mentor are wide open. The more knowledge you have about Council and overall Knight operations the better. (Senior/experienced guys, this may be a good opportunity for you). The key is to genuinely care about the new knight and impart to him care, courtesy and knowledge. (take him under
your wing for a period).

This is a work-in-progress program, and we will build upon it and develop best practices. The specific tasks to date include:

• Attend the exemplification ceremony with the member.
• Invite the member to join you at 3 meetings or functions.
• Introduce the member throughout the council- get to know the men one on one
• Attempt to align the new member with those who have a similar background or interest- create a bond
• Explain what we do and the volunteer opportunities available
• Impart what brought you and keeps you involved in the Knights of Columbus
• Answer questions or help find answers- be a go-to person
